Thurston House Times – Maitland & Minnesota

“My” Mr. Thurston was one of the earliest snow birds coming to Central Florida. He was a well respected Minnesota businessman, involved in carriages, farm implements and cold storage. When he needed to get away, he came to his home on a 160 acre citrus grove near Maitland, Florida. His home in Florida, although a Queen Anne Victorian style, is more farmhouse than fancy. His home in St. Paul was just the opposite. This 1881 brick mix between a Queen Anne Victorian and Italianate style, now on the historic walking tour, was quite elegant and well suited to his position in the community.

Thurston House Times – 10th “thing” about Maitland B&B!

The 10th of 125 things about Thurston House, us and the City of Maitland…all in honor of our 125th anniversary next July of the founding of Maitland and the completion of  Thurston House.

As amazing as it seems, Thurston House is only 5 miles from busy downtown Orlando! We are in the middle of 8 treed acres, and overlook charming Lake Eulalia. There is a walking path around us, areas in the yard to stroll, and hidden bench areas to rest & relax. The best part is that even though you feel miles away from anything, you are not. Minutes away are award winning restaurants, great museums, beautiful parks and wonderful shopping. Come see for yourself what there is to do!

There have been guests from 21 countries, every state except Iowa, and several territories. We especially enjoyed hosting the Viscount & Viscountess of Maitland, Scotland. They live in London but enjoy visits to the states. He is also the Lourde of Lauderdale and heads to Ft. Lauderdale occasionally for family gatherings.
