Have you ever visited the Audubon of Florida’s Birds of Prey Center here in Maitland? It is a fabulous center, with many owls, eagles, osprey and the like for you to view & learn about. It is just a two block walk from Thurston House. Enjoy a great breakfast here then walk over to the center. You can’t get in until 10am anyway…birds have to eat too!

Art Center Installation
The Maitland Art Center announced its’ most recent exhibit – “The Research Studio in the 21st Century”. Come see cutting edge art works and installations in the spirit of the Research Studio founded by Andre Smith in the 1930’s. The City of Maitland owned facility is proudly on the National Historic Register. You will find that the center is just a short stroll from Thurston House. This and many other wonderful places are just moments from the inn.

One of our favorite places for food is Athena Chicken. It is roasted chicken as it should be…scrumpcious! They also offer other Mediteranian specials such as gyros, Greek salad, etc… A few doors down is the Maitland Wine Market. Get some wine, grab your dinner and enjoy a wonderful dinner on their outside table, or bring it home here to Thurston House and enjoy it on the porch. It’s a great way to save going out to dinner with this economy!

Maitland Winter Park – Central Florida
So much to see and do in this part of Central Florida. Thurston House is a great base to see all that we have to offer. You can walk to wonderful museums, a birds of prey center, an antique store, wine market, and several food places. A short drive away gets you to the Winter Park Park Avenue area, Leu Gardens, Orlando Art Museum, Rollin’s College and downtown Orlando. Whatever you like to do or see, we probably have it here. Just ask Carole!

North Orlando – Maitland Arts Festival Coming UP!!
The Maitland Chamber hosts it’s yearly Spring Arts Festival this weekend, 4/18 & 4/19. Situated around beautiful Lake Lily, it’s a great way to spend the day. Lake Lily Park is just a short and pleasant stroll from Thurston House. Rooms are still open!
