The Maitland Art Center just opened another wonderful exhibit – A Confluence. The word means “a coming or flowing together, meeting or gathering at one point”. That’s exactly what this exhibit is, by featuring works from 4 different artists brought together. Come to Thurston House, relax with a wonderful stroll around the area, and end up at the Maitland Art Center…

Thurston House is temporarily closed so that the upstairs sleeping porch and a few other minor things can get a facelift. We do everything possible to make Thurston House gorgeous for our guests! Be the first to come back once we are finished. We reopen to bed & breakfast guests on 10/9, and that just happens to be the night of the Maitland Historical Society Event – An Evening in the Grove….book now!

Thurston House celebrates 17 years of being open for business next week – 9/15! Carole & Joe have thoroughly enjoyed hosting visitors from around the world, and from our own backyard. There have been guests from 21 countries, every state except Iowa, and several territories. We especially enjoyed hosting the Viscount & Viscountess of Maitland, Scotland. They live in London but enjoy visits to the states. He is also the Lourde of Lauderdale and heads to Ft. Lauderdale occasionally for family gatherings.

Coming up is the last holiday weekend of the summer. Enjoy summer rates here at Thurston House, and visit some of the wonderful attractions this area offers to you. The 8th of 125 things about Thurston House, us and the City of Maitland…all in honor of our 125th anniversary next July of the founding of Maitland and the completion of Thurston House.
The 2nd family who owned this home were the Hirsch’s – James & Anna. They were originally from Glencoe, Illinois where he served as mayor. They were very well-to-do and neighbors remember them being chauffeured around in a Cadillac limousine, complete with built in bud vases on the doors. Can’t you just picture that?

We have been certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Wildlife Habitat. We have a beautiful lake, bird bath, many varieties of trees, lots of flowers & bushes, walking areas….everything that makes life perfect for wildlife. We see many varities of birds here, an assortment of colorful butterflies, and all sorts of other wildlife. It is difficult to imagine that we are only 5 miles north of downtown Orlando, but in the middle of this 8 acre natural paradise. Come see!

I just had a guest check out today. She comes here on a regular basis to visit her parents who live near by. Her company is Riverways – “Cultivating Presence in Speaking, Leading and Life!” She has been quite successful over the years with this venture. Her artistic nature also gives the world a wonderful blog to view and read – RevealedPresence.com . It shares a fascinating view of the world that we don’t always take time to see, and certainly gives us something to think about. The thoughts are provoking and the photos magnificent. Take a look!
